Feiyue – you heard it here first, folks. That is, unless you are already down with this Chinese sneaker brand founded in Shanghai in the 1920s. Plenty of Chinese over a certain age will remember owning a pair of these in their youth– think of them as the Adidas Superstar / Converse All-Star / Dunlop Greenflash of the east. They rock.
So, in 2006, a French company took over Feiyue and turned this retro Chinese label into a sassy street fashion brand (check out their beautiful website and tumblr), spruced up the classic range and are releasing a slew of new limited editions. They’ve got a quarter of a million Twitter likes. As you might expect, Feiyue aren’t cheap overseas, the most basic pair, the classic ‘Plain Lo’, sells in the Paris stores for 50 euro. Urban Outfitters has Feiyue for sale online at a cool 85 USD.
OR… you could pay a visit to Beijing’s very own Feiyue store on Nanluoguxiang and snap up a pair for 59 RMB. Yep, no kidding. About 9 USD. That’s how much we paid for this pair. A Chinese article we found online said they used to be sold for just 10 RMB. Dang!
Hi-tops go for about double that, so it’s a no-brainer! Pick up a pair (or pairs) today! Beloved by martial artists, parkour practitioners, hipsters – AND – celebrity kids…
Here’s Orlando Bloom’s little treasure rocking a pair…
And Reese Witherspoon’s cute little cupcake too. Just so you know, this post is entirely non-promotional – we just love to share a good bargain.
