We love the Forbidden City, it truly is the jewel in Beijing’s crown. But its location is also a big ol’ pain in the butt: situated to the north of the ultra-sensitive Tiananmen Square and frequented by thousands of tourists streaming out of the nearby subway, the security lines to get inside (underneath Mao’s portrait) can take forever. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
TRB (aka Temple Restaurant Beijing) has been charming the hell out of people for years now over in Beijing’s hutongs. And while it’s hard to beat a dining room with views of the Forbidden City, the top-notch food and service has played just as big a role in its success.

The original Xixi Bistro was a real Bespoke fave when it opened back in 2015 and its closing left us somewhat bereft – just where were we supposed to get our Shanghai Italian fusion food now? The good news is that Xixi is back and she’s on as fine form as ever, having relocated from scruffy-but-charming Wuyuan Road to some seriously swanky new digs in none other than Xintiandi.
It may be called Xiao SuSu (Little SuSu), but the new branch of this popular Vietnamese restaurant is all grown up.
