After two and a half months of redevelopment, Sanlitun’s MODO (one of our old faves) has reemerged as MODO Urban Deli, a sleek new concept which caters to “time constrained & style-seeking active people” in Beijing. Inside they’ve managed to maintain their hip, industrial look while also adding playful drawings by Swedish artist designer Elin Wedi to represent their new modern European deli style approach to cooking.
Much more than just a restaurant, MODO Urban Deli is setting up as a new hang-out spot, take-out shop (perfect packed lunches for great wall excursions and catering service. The European-style deli food is complemented by a curated wine selection with an emphasis on value and uniqueness (most under RMB 300). To quote the boys in charge:
“The drive behind MODO Urban Deli is to share the founder’s care for wholesome eating on a daily basis. No need to go fancy. It’s all about bringing out the fresh flavors of the right produce in a simple way – From a laid-back aperitivo to share a charcuterie board and wine; a mini market from where to grab the missing ingredients to complement a home prepared meal; to picking up “My Urban Picnic” bag for a wholesome spread on a quiet bench in the urban jungle.”
Open throughout the day, it’s a welcoming place for lunch, coffee, aperitif and a casual dinner with good wholesome food and chilled-out vibes from 10:30AM-11PM (last order at 10PM).
The deli counter sells fresh and tasty lunch boxes, picnic bags and dinner delicatessen to takeaway and consume while you’re out and about on your Beijing adventures. The space also serves as a mini market retailing MODO Wines and a selection of home-made condiments (like sauces and jars of white bean hummus), side dishes, appetizers, terrines and more to complement home cooked meals or for a foodie gift.
The menu features all sorts of tempting choices, including fresh juices & smoothies, daily specials (daily soup, daily quiche, daily bake), deli sandwiches, quinoa salad and their combo deals. We’ll be back!
