Nanjing Art Deco Weekender- Join Us!

June 29, 2015 Shanghai

Mei Ling Gong 2

Sure, you’ve spent your weekends exploring the former French Concession and reckon you know your ‘Shanghai Deco’? That’s great, history buff, but what you are probably less familiar with is the fact that our nearby neighbor Nanjing boasts her own collection of fabulous 20s and 30s architecture awaiting your discovery. Even better, Bespoke and the folks at Historic Shanghai are offering you the chance to join us on a neat little weekender this coming July 4th and 5th.

Rose Villa

If you didn’t already know, the World Congress on Art Deco 2015 is coming to Shanghai in November this year, bringing architecture and design lovers from around the globe with it. Bespoke Shanghai is honored to be collaborating on the Post-Congress Nanjing tour, and this July weekend trip is an Urban Edit Reader only run through – with a special price to boot.

Join us and the experts from Historic Shanghai (there is absolutely no one better to do this stuff with, we promise) as we jump on the bullet train and spend two days exploring Nanjing’s Republican-era heritage, with a focus on the ‘Nanjing Decade’ from 1928 to 1938 when Chiang Kai-Shek named the city as capital of China prompting a flurry of development.

Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling loom large in our story.
Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling loom large in our story.

Our visit will include stops at the Rose Villa, the glamorous residence built for Chiang and wife Soong Mei-ling on the slopes of Purple Mountain, as well as his government headquarters in the Presidential Palace. Even those who have visited Nanjing before are unlikely to be familiar with the striking Linggu Pagoda, a war memorial designed by American architect Henry K Murphy with a truly stunning interior, or the former residence of Pearl Buck, the Pullitzer Prize winning writer who spent time living on the Nanjing Univeristy campus. These are just a few of the little-known treasures to be unearthed during the visit so mark down the dates in your diary and reserve your spot now.

Fore more details or to sign-up please email us here. Prices start from 2,500 RMB per person to include all transporation, entrance tickets and accommodation at the 5 star Fairmont Nanjing.
