Congratulations to Beijing’s very own The Temple Hotel, recently voted runner-up in Wallpaper Magazine’s list of “Best Urban Hotels 2014” , from a shortlist of 48 leading hotels around the world. JK Place Roma in Italy took the top spot, judged by bigwigs of the design and travel spheres, with Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles joining The Temple Hotel as the second runner-up.
Here’s what Wallpaper has to say about The Temple Hotel:
Tucked away in the tightly packed streets surrounding the Forbidden City, The Temple Hotel’s evocative past as a Qing dynasty temple is in stark contrast with the contemporary architecture and renovation that was recently recognised with a UNESCO award for cultural heritage conservation. Original wood and tiles were used throughout the restoration, and a contemporary lighting element was introduced by Ingo Maurer.
Wouldn’t you know it, Bespoke was one of the first travel companies to review The Temple Hotel when it opened it 2013; read what we had to say about it here. And click here for the full shortlist of Wallpaper’s Best Urban Hotels 2014.
Congratulations also to the Waldorf Astoria Beijing, which made Wallpaper’s shortlist. Check out our write-up on that equally awesome hotel here.
